A Gable Fan's Delight

If you are a Clark Gable fan and or collector, this is a must for a visit.

Cadiz is the hometown of Gable and in his honor the town has reconstructed the Gable homeplace on 138 Charleston Street.
They now have small get-togethers in the basement of the house, a gift shop on the first floor and a museum on the second floor that houses some items owned by Gable when he was a child as well as an Adult.
In the past couple of years they opened a Bed and Breakfast right out from the Gable House which rents out two rooms year round.
The Museum also owns and shows one of Gable's baby blue Cadillacs.
It is ran, for the most part, by volunteers.

There is one annual event: The closest weekend to February 1 (Clark Gable's Birthdate) there is an annual birthday party celebration and fans come from all over the U.S. and sometimes outside the U.S. to celebrate the King of Hollywood's birthday.

Clark Gable B-day Celebration Jan 30 - Feb 1, 2004

January 30, 2004 Mark and I set out on a snowy morning for Cadiz, Ohio.
We left home around 7 am and arrived in Cadiz around 12:30 - 1:00 pm.
We checked into our motel, changed clothes and headed out to the Sally Buffalo Lodge where the Forum and Memorabilia show had been scheduled to begin around Noon.
When we arrived the Memorabilia was all set up, several vendors were there with everything from Clark Gable photo's to Roy Rogers Clothing. It was one of the best Memorabilia shows they have had in Cadiz, (Since Mark and I have been attending - 2001).
The Forum started about 30 min. to an hour after we arrived so we didn't miss anything. We settled in after browsing the memorabilia and listened to the always entertaining memories and stories that Cammie King (Bonnie Blue Butler) and Judy Lewis (Clark Gable and Loretta Young's daughter) had to tell.
Later that evening we came back to Sally Buffalo for another Forum and auction.
The next day we arrived at Sally Buffalo for another Forum and later that night on to the Hopedale Social Hall for the Dinner/ Dance.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Anybody who loves Gable will love visiting the place he was born.
  • Cons:It's a very small area without any major hotels or motels in the immediate area.
  • In a nutshell:It's The Birthplace of the King...The King of Hollywood that is.
