City walls: City walls

  • Old Town Wall is about 2 km long and it takes about one hour to walk around the old town.
You don't have to walk around all the wall, you can also walk the half of it.
It isn't usually included in guided tour, but everybody can go there alone.
There are 3 entrances and the most popular one ( near Pile Gate )is usually crowded. So I recommend to choose another, for example the one near harbour.
Don't forget it is usually very hot and sunny in Dubrovnik, especially in Summer and there is no shade on the wall, so remember to have something on your head !

All the walls and fortresses are enormous. They protected the city really well during the ages.
The wievs from the above are so beautiful.
The roofs of the houses are red, but 80% of them are new - rebuilt after the last war.

  • Fountain with decorated taps
  • by Madlena
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • The most popular place to meet in Dubrovnik.
It is sometimes difficult to find a free tap around the fountain. All the tourists are washing their hands and faces here. They refresh and drink the water.
It is drinkable and it is said that if someone drinks this water he or she will come back to Dubrovnik in future.
And if someone wants any love dream to come true he or she must drink the water from all the taps. So don't be suprised if you notice some girls running around the fountain and drinking the water... :-)

    Franciscan monastery: The Franciscan Monastery

  • This monastery is famous for the oldest drug store and its museum.
It wasn't allowed to take pictures there. Never mind. Nothing so much interesting.
For me the most beautiful place in this monastery is patio ( viridarium).
Can you imagine a lonely monk walking in this part of monastery? Can you imagine silence and its beauty in the old times?
I think I could relax in such a place and it is perfect for concentration and consideration.
It is possible to feel a peace of mind in such a place.

    The Stradun: The Stradun
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Every city has its famous and representative street.
The Stradun is such a street in the old town of Dubrovnik.
It used to be the main sewer and when all sewage system was built it was covered up.
All the buildings along the Stradun are almost the same. The same height, the same structure, made of white stone with red roofs.
Equality was very important for citizens.
    The structure of the house:
Ground floor - shops and services
    First floor - bedrooms
    Second floor - representative rooms
    Third floor - kitchens

Pavement of the Stradun is polished by strollers and it is smooth and shiny.

Comfortable with usuful, nice, antique furniture.
It must really have been a pleasant place to live in the city several ages ago.

  • This is a small Onofrije's Fountain which is situaeted at the other end of Stradun. There is Luza Palace in the background and you can admire its lovely facade and the main yard. Nowadays it contains archives so the upper floors are not to visit.
