Diamonds and other things are forever in Antwerp Antwerp is not high on the tourist radar. It is a major European port city but also has a critical mass of interesting stores, restaurants and cafes along with historic churches and architecture. The variety of shopping seemed better than Brussels, for sure.
The city definitely reminds me of what a Dutch city like Rotterdam would be like if it had not suffered as much damage during WW II.
**Just re-visited in January 2008. The city still holds-up very well as the main city of Flanders. I strongly recommend the 'Footprint' guide to Antwerp & Ghent. I showed it to a local friend of mine who was amazed at how up-to-date the info is.** |
