  • Laconia public library was finished in 1903 in the Romanesque style of architecture. This style emphasizes weight and mass through rock-faced masonry, heavy arches, and broad roofs. The beautiful building looks like some kind of gothic manor or castle. The interior contains hardwood floors and rails, beautiful decor and paintings, and a museum on local history with native American Indian artifacts. There is also internet access. The selection of books, videos and CDs is quite good.

  • From the state's description - "Constructed in 1832, the Belknap Mill is the oldest unaltered brick textile mill in the U.S. Once a hosiery mill, it houses an intact hydraulic power plant and a bell cast by George Holbrook, apprentice to Paul Revere. The Busiel Mill, built in 1853 as a hosiery mill, was later used for the manufacture of clocks, electronic relays, and organs."

The mill now houses a working museum and I love going there. You can feel the atmosphere and marvel at the thick wooden beams, huge leather belts from the hydro-power equipment, and even get mill-made a stocking sometime around Christmas. They frequently have special events, such as art displays, sales, and even a 'ring in the New Year' event. There is a rotunda outside where bands play during the summer. A pleasant way to spend an hour or two.

Hello Ken. Tahnks for stopping by my Biloxi page. It is a tragedy what has happened there. We loved that place. I enjoyed reading about your home town of Laconia. What a lovely place to live.

My son got in trouble for riding a jet ski in front of the tour boat one summer. He was a tyrant. We all loved the lake. Of course the boys loved the Weirs.
