| Geoff & Mary Hiding From Me |
Dear Friends In A Lovely Village Firstly, I wouldn't have known about Altarnun if not for Geoff Wright, a regular contributor to this website. He and his family graciously took me in and fed me (a lot!) and treated me to everything I hoped to see in the area. Having just come from busy London, my time in their home was a welcome winding down into the sort of peaceful calm I had been looking for all along. I am forever in their debt, and glad to have met such wonderful people. |
| The Packhorse Bridge Over The River Inny |
One Of The Prettiest Villages In Cornwall Altarnun is often recognized as being one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall, and that's saying a lot since most of the villages in Cornwall are gorgeous. It lives up to it's name. The center of the village consists of a handful of granite buildings dating hundreds of years, which include the Post Office, Village Shop, and Butcher. Cross a beautiful stone packhorse bridge and you'll reach the splendid church of St. Nonna, also called the Cathedral of the Moors. The 79 hand-carved 15th century bench ends in the church are but one of the building's highlights. |
