| | Scenic Village On The Coast Mousehole is a scenic fishing village on the Mounts Bay filled with narrow alleys, cats, and great little shops. The main port in Mount's Bay from the 13th-16th centuries, it is named after a cave on the rocky coast. Another item of interest on the coastline of Mousehole is Merlyn's Rock, where the wizard is said to have predicted that the village would be burned to the ground. This basically happened when the Spanish attacked in July of 1595, the last time England was invaded by foreign hostiles. |

| | A Hop, Skip & Hike Away Although you can bus to Mousehole from Penzance, we usually hiked the few miles along the south-west coastal path to get there, passing through another great fishing village called Newlyn on the way. I suggest the same route if you have a chance one fine day - it's easy walking, impossible to get lost, and only a couple of miles from the center of Penzance. Along the way you will pass a fisherman's mission, seafood shops, a quay, pubs, a lifeboat station, and a tiny memorial park dedicated to lost sailors. Worth the hike. |
| | The Mousehole Cat(s) Mousehole is full of cats, some tail-less, others quite normal. My girlfriend and I made friends with a few of them when she fed them from the cap of a bottle of milk she was carrying, so I can vouch for their tameness. If you have kids and want to get them excited about going to Mousehole, or just want a neat thing to remember your visit by, get The Mousehole Cat book or video. It is the tale of how Mowzer the cat and Tom, his old 'pet' fisherman, face the anger of the Great Storm Cat. There is beautiful painted artwork throughout the charming book. |
