Welcome in Costa Rica

by hat53 - last update: Jul 29, 2004

So this is Central America

View from the Balmoral Hotel
Costa Rica was our introduction into traveling. The next 21 day we would see the high lights of Costa Rica and some parts of Panama.
We expected to enter a complete different world but were surprised. San José is just like every other big western town. Lot's of cars, people, fast food and shops.

Because of the height the weather is comfortable; spring like.
Lottery Sales

Street Sales

Gambling is very popular in San José. At every corner of the street there were little stands with lottery tickets. Beside the tickets you can buy fresh fruit, bread, sunglasses, etc at the stands.

There are a lot of people in the streets walking, sitting on a bench or using the phone boots. If you like watching people just take a seat and enjoy the show.
The main street

Lot's of traffic

As in every capital there is a lot of traffic and there are a lot of taxi's. You can recognize the taxi's easily as you can see at the picture.

San José doesn't look any different from a big town anywhere else as you can see. This will change when you leave the city.
