How can you get any better than a gourmet restaurant, staffed by people who are attentive and are always there to refill a glass that sits at the foot of a pool that overlooks the ocean- and no walls, just a big thatched roof. Well, in San Juan del Sur - you can't. La Cascada is the official name, but people just refer to it as Piedras y Olas or Pelican Eyes.

Favorite Dish: My personal favorites: Lobster and corn fritters, cantaloupe granita, hot artichoke dip with homemade tortilla chips which taste/look/crunch better than any you've ever had, and the mahi mahi.

  • Restaurant Name: and all Nicaraguan: El Colibri

El Colibri is one of those places that people might just call "Mary's place" or "that place just left outside of Pelican Eyes..." Whatever it's called, it's a fun, local place that seems to be the ex-pat center of SJdS.

Favorite Dish: The paella is a house specialty (since two of the owners, a couple, are from Girona, Spain). After a little while, you'll feel like you're at home, and you'll start to be treated like family.

Asia Latina: In Granada, the name says it all...
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Asia Latina

The corner Thai/Latin restaurant (which is much bigger on the inside than it looks like on the outside) wears a few hats- good restaurant, neighborhood-y hangout and the center/start of any type of Granada nightlife, and it also feels like you're in someone's home - especially the bathroom sinks (very interesting).

The prices are very good, lots of choices and close to everything. Also, GLBT-owned and one of the few GLBT-friendly places in Granada.

Favorite Dish: One thing- be careful when you ask for something to be spicier- if you don't specify how spicy, you'll be tearing up for the whole meal.
