Crossing the street in Rome is a sport in and of itself; crossing the Piazza Venezia (at the Vittorio Emanuele Monument, a.k.a. the 'wedding cake,' is a feat unknown to any other city). No matter how prudent you try to maneuver this plaza, you still will have to get across the main piazza somehow; use your head, if you can get across, go; don't stop in the middle- you'll only cause more confusion and will really *** off the drivers.

If you spend longer than a week in Italy, and and on a budget- getting clean clothes in Italy can be a problem. Of course, Italy has laundry services and dry cleaning, but it's the price...laundry in Italy is expensive! And it's very easy to get taken in by not paying attention (take it from me, who once naively dropped summer laundry off in a laundromat and ended up getting charged equivalent of $75US because they washed, pressed, starched and folded everything! If you're on a budget (or even if you're not), and you want your clothes cleaned (basic stuff- shorts, shirts, socks, underwear)- make sure you are clear that you want it washed and dried- no starch, no hangers, no pressing. Take a good look at the price tables...and if you don't see a basic laundry charge (per kilo), then take your clothes somewhere else.
