This was a chance for us to catch up with some old friends and family who have been patiently waiting for B to finish her degree so we could come and visit. This started in Paignton, visiting Donna and Lee, Keiran and Kimberly. We spent the weekend with them which was excellent and full of laughs... If anyone has seen the film Brother Bear and the scene with the two antalopes on top of the mammoths!!!
The next stage of the trip was to find a place to camp (Cheaply) and we found this on a farm that seemed to provide long term caravan homes . We pitched the tent and then set off to see what Cornwall had to offer! One of the attactions that we wanted to go and see was the Helston Air show which is held at HMS Seahawk. We saw the practice the previous day which was excellent with the Italian Miltary doing fly bys and the Sea Harriers doing Dog fights at low level. Unfortunatly as you can see by the top picture the weather failed to let the show continue on Wednesday and it was back to the tent in a blanket of fog.
The following pictures are all examples of the Eden Project, which I would recommend to anyone who is in the areas of St Austall to go and visit. The day again was really overcast but to travel around the different areas of the Eden Project was not spoilt by the weather although there is a lot of walking and the queues for the trains (or tractors) were always busy. The drift wood horse was stunning as you walked in, and this represented how good the structures and statues in the surroundings of the Eden Project. One of our favourites was the grass lady, who seemed to be losing her hair and was kind of hiden as a feature but we felt was quite a strong example of what can be done. Some of the plants in the Biomes were amazing considering that everything was grown from seed four years ago. The worst thing that we found was that there were still some people that wanted to distroy the evironment by scratching their names into the tropical plants. This is nothing that the Eden Project could control, but is up to us to inform and ensure that our kids don't do.
Cornwall was overall really foggy, and even though we never had the opportunity to go to the beach it was great fun to travel around and just see the different attactions in the far south west. Other areas that were visited was the Mimack Theatre which again is a must for anyone and the St Ives Tate Gallery, which can be interesting depending on what displays they have at that time. The unusual thing about St Ives and the North side of Cornwall is that it can have a completly different day compared to the south of Cornwall which is only about 6 miles away. When we visited the Tate there was bright sunshine and people getting burnt on the beach.... around the south FOG.
- Pros:sea and surf
- Cons:foggy
- In a nutshell:Cornwall is just great
