Hallo,my name is Tomas and i would like to introduced you my hometown-Kosice.Kosice is the second biggest city of Slovakia and is the capital of east Slovakia.
Kosice has a beautiful center.Especialy in summer, with many beergardens, looks our Main street (Hlavna ulica) great. We have many historical monuments there.
This noted medieval monument was built in the High Gothic style. The present cathedral stands on a site formerly occupied by a parish church, which was destroyed by fire about 1370. The patrons of the church included St. Elizabeth. The construction of St. Elizabeth's Cathedral began in approximately 1378 and was carried out in several stages
The representative building of the State Theatre is situated in the city centre. It was built in a new- baroque style during the years 1879-1899, according to the projects of A.Lang and A.Steinhardt, where a former theatre-building, built in 1788 - 1790, was sitauted. Originally before that a town-hall building was situated here
Originally a Gothic prismatic campanile with a pyramidal roof dating back to the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. A marble tablet above the entrance to the bell tower reminds us of the modification the tower was subjected to in 1628, when a pyramidal roof was constructed.A bell, which was installed in the bell tower (his weight equals to 7 tones), was dedicated to St. Urban, the patron of wine-prowers, which was cast in a mould by the bell founder Frantisek Illenfeld of Olomouc in 1557. In 1775 the tower underwent further reconstruction, when a pyramidal roof was constructed with annion in the Baroque style with an iron cross preserved to this day. In the early 19th century thetower was completed with an Empire roof and small shops were built around it. In the years 1911-1912, 1943-1944 and in 1947 an archade passage was erected around the Tower.
It probably comes from the first half of 14th century and had always been a part of the parish church. It was built as a cemetery chapel in the centre of a cemetery inside the city walls stretching from the Cathedral to the South on the island of the Èerme¾ský potok (Èerme¾ brook) in the place of the present park in the Hlavná ulica (Main street).
The Immaculata Statue is the most beautiful Baroque-style sculptured monument in the City. It commemorates the plague from the years 1710 -1711 and dates in 1720 - 1723. Its architectonical basement is by the Kosice master Tomas Tornayosi and the sculpture is by the sculptor Griming. The Statue was restorated in 18th and 19th century. The fence was reconstructed in 1909. The statues on the pillars of the fence are by the sculptor L. Hild of Sopron. During the Second World War the Statue was damaged and in the years 1949 - 1951 and 1971 - 1972 it was restored by acad. sculptor V. Loffler
The building was erected in 1899 in the pseudo-Gothic constructed constructed from discarded stones from the Kosice St. Elizabeth's Cathedral. It was named after the first owner of the building Arpad Jakab.
In 1945 (April - May) the palace was the seat of the president of Czechoslovakia.
At present the building serves the needs of the British Council and for important social events
Kosice is not so big city with perfect nightlife as Prague,Vienna or Budapest, but we have many possibilities of nightlife too. There are many good pubs and few discos.
My favourites pubs are:Irish pub on Main street. and Kelt pub on Main street too.
I like pizza:you got a good pizza in Pizzeria Modena,Cucabamba etc.
I think that we have a very good prices here in Kosice.
beer-25-35 Skk
pizza- 130-170Skk.
(1Euro=40Skk).
If you planning a short trip to Kosice,do not hesitate and contact me.

Tomas, fabulous Kosice photos. We once visited the city and like it a lot.
Hello, Tomas! Thanks for your great story! We have only passed Kosice by the motorway on the way from Germany and didn't see anything...
Great Kosice page Tomas. You have a lovely city. I was there earlier this week and it was a real gem. I reckon it must be even prettier in summer. The cathedral in particular is one of the most impressive I've visited. All the best.
Happy birthday! Do you know much about Poprad, Levoca and Strbske Pleso?
