Restaurant Name: Tokyo Cafe
We just popped into this place for a coffee but the staff were sooooo nice and helpful and the service was fab. I saw two guys eating some gorgeous looking food but I don't know what it was. If I was looking for oriental food in Amsterdam I would definitely go back to this place. The decor is great and the whole place is quite classy. Tip the waiters... they work damned hard and they deserve it.
Favorite Dish: Like I said we just had coffee but it was great coffee :)))

Porto Carrara: Eating Italian in Amsterdam

Restaurant Name: Porto Carrara
There are masses of Italian restaurants in Amsterdam, but this one seemed to be full of mostly Dutch locals - so my guess is that its probably one of the better ones! Careful when you get your meal though, mine was waaaaay to hot to eat straight away! (at least it wasn't cold... much worse..yuk!)
Favorite Dish: I had vegetarian lasagne and Petra had spaghetti carbonara (if I remember correctly). Neither of us left anything so it must have been good! It seems all their meals are 5E.

I didn't fancy the seafood here as it was only mid morning but had it been nearer lunch time I might have been tempted. The other off-putting factor was that me and P only had 5E left between us and I wanted to get rid of my small change. She had a Snickers bar and a coke. Oh and if you are here and have a bit more than 5E in small change and feel like doing a bit of shopping, don't forget to visit the Tax Free Winkelen :)
Favorite Dish: I had the freshly squeezed orange juice - it's prepared right in front of you...like in some of those chinese restaurants - the only difference is I wasn't asked to choose my oranges personally... oh well.. can't have everything. It was still delicious and I used up 2.50E in 20 cent pieces :))

Vertigo Cafe: Cafe in the Vondel Park

Restaurant Name: Vertigo Cafe
Sitting outside on the terrace of this lovely cafe on a sunny, warm spring day with good company is a fabulous way to spend Sunday afternoon (if you can get a table). Your friend might get there really early so getting a table is no problem! The cafe is a self-service affair - you get your drinks and snacks from the little kiosk and pay there and then. This is fine but the queues can be quite long on busy days. After you have had your drinks and chatted, the park is a lovely place to go for a walk. (There is currently (4/05) a lot of work going on in the park - laying new paths etc - so some of it does look a bit like a building site!) Don't let this deter you from paying it a visit. Vondel is a famous Dutch poet so please don't show your ignorance by saying *well I've never heard of him so he can't be THAT famous*, as this comes across as a bit arrogant (and ignorant). Check the website for a bit of info and biography. Joost van den Vondel
Favorite Dish: We only had drinks.

Restaurant Name: De Eetkamer van der Jordaan
My great Dutch friends PJ and Swanet suggested dinner in this super Dutch restaurant in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam (where we also met up with Igraine (Ingrid) -and after several visits to this fascinating city I thought it was about time to try some Dutch food other than the ubiquitous *toasty*. I wasn't disappointed... this restaurant is fabulous. The menu is varied and has vegetarian options and the service is impeccable. It was very busy on the night we went and seemed very popular with locals. Its not exactly for those on a budget - but well worth every Euro!
Favorite Dish: I had the vegetarian dish with pancakes, feta cheese and spinach and a HUGE salad I couldn't finish... followed by a delectable chocolate mousse *Mmmmmmmm*!!!
