Getting TO/AROUND: I flew to Vienna with the wonderful Austrian Airlines. Great service (food/snacks have to be paid for) but tea and coffee are complimentary with a free chocolate wafer. I really enjoyed this flight as they show the plane's route on a screen above your seat so you know exactly where you are, the altitude, speed, temperature etc etc. at any given time. On the way out there I chatted to a very nice and helpful Austrian girl who told me about the CAT train (it actually sounded like the C80 train -so there was a little bit of confusion - but only for a minute :))

Getting TO/AROUND: I was very surprised at how easy traveling around Vienna city centre was. It seems that people will travel very short distances by tram or tube - and the distances between stops is very short too! To me it hardly seems worth the wait for public transport but because it is so cheap and so regular... why not use it ? I took the tram from Loewengasse to Schwedenplatz for 2E. I could have walked it but the tram was coming. You buy your ticket from the machine on board and stamp it in the same machine.

Getting TO/AROUND: As I didn't see the city by bike I am not sure about costs and timings etc, but it seems that it is very easy to pick up a bike at various locations around the city and leave it at another. If I was staying longer and the weather was good it is certainly a method of transportation I would consider taking.

Getting TO/AROUND: On Saturday evening Petra and I found our way to Suedbahnhof and took the 18.50 'S' train (Suburban railway) to Bratislava. It takes about 1 hour to travel 60km to the former 'Pressburg' capital of Slovakia. Tickets cost 14E return and the last train to Vienna from Bratislava is 10.23pm. Remember you will need your passport as the police board the train checking passports there and back. You will also need to exchange your money into Slovakian Korun as the Euro is not accepted currency! (And it's best to try to think about these things before you begin your journey ;))
