The Birthplace of Modern Motor Racing and other Bexhill, United Kingdom General Tips

Favorite Thing: This is the kind of thing the council spends our council tax on. This is their idea of art.They put it here as a kind of "memorial" to what Bexhill once was. In the early part of the last century Bexhill was the birthplace of modern motor racing!

They used to race cars up and down the seafront. For a few years in the 1990's they tried to hold motor races again. It was fun. People polished their classic cars and motorbikes to show off and raced them. They put a small funfair on the seafront and people came from miles around. Tourists mixed with locals and the pubs and restaurants benefited from the influx of hungry and thirsty visitors. There was an old tram driving people round the town... it brought much needed revenue to Bexhill.... but..... the old folk complained of the noise, the disruption, the crowds... the council decided it was no longer feasible to hold this event.... it was just one bank holiday weekend a year..... it was cancelled.

Favorite Thing: When a friend is feeling blue - take them out for one of these!! They will be guaranteed to bring a smile back :))

This favourite childhood summer time seaside treat can still be found in a few typical seaside cafes - but at £4.25 each they really are a *special occasions* only kinda thing.

Ingredients:

Tinned fruit
Strawberry Syrup
strawberry icecream
more syrup
Vanilla icecream
Squirty cream
Hundreds and thousands

Complete junk - but totally divine!!!!!

I have no idea why this long tall fruity icecream is named after a Victorian undergarment (the Knickerbocker) probably because of its sweet pink frillyness.

Fondest Memory: Still finding a caff that makes nickynocky norries.

Favorite Thing: The clock tower just opposite the Bexhill Museum, has recently been renovated and restarted.

The erection of the tower was originally intended for the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902 but (typically for Bexhill) it was not completed until 1904.
