"Sissinghurst" Sissinghurst by Mariajoy
Sissinghurst Travel Guide: 22 reviews and 101 photos
Sissinghurst Castle is the former home of the author, Vita Sackville-West who designed the magnificent gardens surrounding the Elizabethan mansion in Kent - the Garden of England. After she and her husband Harold Nicholson died, the buildings and garden were given to the National Trust. Please see the link for more details.
I visited here with friends on a warm but hazy day in April and, even though I had visited years before, was amazed by the sheer beauty of the various gardens, the bluebell woodland walk, the moat, the tower where she wrote, and the stunning views over Kent.

Sounds like you found this garden a delight too! I would have loved to have seen the spring bulb's, especially the paddock full of Bluebell's, what a sight that must have been. It really is a lovely castle!
Thanks, Maria. Great pics and tips and your enthusiasm is helpful as well. Do you know how it would be in late summer, early fall (Sept)?
I've read a lot of the Nicholson/Sackville-West books, so this is a place that I would dearly love to see. But it's rather difficult to get to unless you have a car!
Hi Maria, nice to see your page and photos - Sissinghurst is one of my favourite gardens - was stunning when we were there one June!
Yes, I'm sure "The Great Improvement" must have had a highly positive effect on their lives there, especially in the winter. Still, I'd hate to have to pay the heating bills for a place like that.
an interesting place with great architecture ! English gardens are always great to look at !
Indeed, a nice place to spend a couple of hours. The gardeners must have a lot to do with all the beautiful flowers.
Oast houses... mmm. I can imagine having my own castle with its own private brewery :).
What splendid gardens Maria! Hope you enjoyed your long weekend... back to the grindstone tomorrow!
very nice looking english countryside :O)
