Hotel room
It was comfy and clean and warm. We got a special deal on this hotel with Expedia.co.uk but normally this room would be 200Euro per night. Oh and breakfast is not included. There is a very nice restaurant, the *Ulysses*, and breakfast is 8.50Euro for the continental and 12Euro for the full Irish brekky.
Breakfast times are 7am-11am and the restaurant is open 6pm-11pm.
It's about a 15 minute walk to Grafton Street from the hotel.
Unique Qualities: The McEniff is a three star hotel which opened in February 2004.

As we had such huge rucksacks to carry, we were delighted to find this hotel right by the station. When we got off the airport bus and saw it just across the street we breathed a sigh of relief!
We arrived at reception to check in, I said to the guy *I hope we are on the first floor cos I've got this big heavy rucksack and I can't carry it up many stairs*... he replied *I've put you on the fourth, and the lift is out of order* Funny. But true!!! So I said *Well, can you get someone to carry it up for me?* and he obliged.
Entry to the rooms is by key card. Let me explain about the key cards - 'cos the guy on reception won't!! To switch on the electricity in the room you put your key card in the slot on the wall on the right as you come in the door. We didn't know that, so sat there for half an hour wondering what was wrong with the leccy - maybe the hotel hadn't paid their bill? Maybe there was a power cut?? We had a kettle, but it didn't work, we had a telly but it didn't work.. A few minutes later the porter came up with my rucksack... he tried everything, the kettle, the tv, the lights (we had already done that)... then a light went on ... (at least in his head).. and he said *have you put your key card in the slot on the wall??* *errrr.. Nooooooo?? Should we have done that??* *Yes, that's what switches on the electric in the rooms*. Hooray!! Everyone was happy - and he told us the lift was now working too.
Unique Qualities: Very very busy, huge hotel, nice though, very comfy and friendly. Good breakfast - full Irish or continental.... internet access, (but who would do THAT on holiday?? ;-)) and a hair dryer in the drawer!! WhoHoo! Classy!
The tram into the city centre goes right past the hotel and only costs 1.40E - very convenient.

The Harding Hotel
It took us a while to find it, going at least two stops too far on the tram than we needed to, and then having to walk back with heavy rucksacks for about 15 minutes but, eventually we got there.
We were so exhausted that we just wanted to crash as soon as we got there, so the guy on reception just spent a couple of minutes explaining where the airport bus stops were and no.. unfortunately no taxis.. taxis are on strike on Monday.. so there was no choice but to take the bus.
At 2am a random door knocker disturbed the entire 3rd floor (oHhh this hotel has a working lift btw), until he/she was told to *feck off and let everyone sleep!!*by an irate guest in the room a couple of doors from ours. It turned out that she was from a very drunk hen party and had forgotten her room number.
The room was comfy, spacious and had all the usual facilities including masses of coffee, tea bags and milk!! Fab!! We were very happy campers! :)
Unique Qualities: Breakfast was served by a waiter downstairs in the Copper Alley Bistro - salmon and scrambled eggs or full Irish or continental - I had the salmon and eggs before heading off to find the bus stop.

If you have no fridge in your room and you need extra milk 'cos those little complimentary things aren't enough - buy your own and leave it on the window ledge outside! (btw - this only works from Oct-April)
Unique Qualities: The window opened just wide enough to slip a small carton of milk through.

Unfortunately our view wasn't of the Grand Canal itself but of the EU and the Irish flag. One look at those flags in the morning told me if I needed to put on the thermals before venturing outside.
At least it didn't rain!

Nice hotel on the Grand Canal (we didn't have a view). It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the centre. The Grand Canal Dock DART station is just across the road. This is the old "docklands" area of Dublin. There's hardly any activity now but there are a lot of trendy apartments and cafes and pubs and office blocks. At the other end is the Landsdowne Road Football Stadium.
Unique Qualities: There wasn't anything specifically unique about this place. The room was clean, comfortable, had tea/coffee making facilities and had wireless internet and digital TV.
