As a lover of the work of the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), I couldn't pass up a trip from Hamburg to Magdeburg without stopping for an hour or two in Uelzen to see this unique railway station. The station is also special because incorporated in the roof are solar panels. It is one of the largest solar plants in Northern Germany. Hundertwasser designed his buildings to be ecologically sound and environmentally friendly as well as artistically pleasing with the use of colour, columns and very few straight lines!
hundertwasserbahnhof
The station interior contains (on two levels) a cafe, travel shop, gift shops and an art shop .. all of course in the same Hundertwasser style.
- Pros:The station
- Cons:It might still be snowing in April
- In a nutshell:Nice little town

Definitely different as Train Stations go.
wonderful train station
I don't know about the concert hall, but it reminds me of some of Gaudi's work.
What a lovely railway station! Unfortunately, it's a bit far away coming from Switzerland.
great to see another work of art by F. Hundertwasser, I like his way to arrange old and broken remains of various tiles that it looks like geniune art ;~)
UR right about the unusual art there! I have only passed Uelzen by bus on the way home, never known it was so unique...
Never heard of the place, very interesting. Reminds me of the concert hall in Barcelona.
I have passed through Uelzen many many times, but never made it to the "Ladies"....
Nice to see a bit of Uelzen, its my boyfriend's hometown. Funny to think of the typical Niedersachsener with such a colorful train station....I think its great! Thanks for letting me see it through your page...
Relieved? Hahahahahaha. You made a funny!
