Worried Sheep

Don't let your dogs run free in and around the Ashdown Forest.. they must be on leads! Cattle and sheep roam and graze freely here and like the sign warns, dogs WILL be shot if they are found to be worrying them!

Tailbacks on the A21

If there are roadworks on the A21 with temporary traffic lights, the road chaos here can delay your journey and make you miss your rail connections!! Saturdays always seem worse for reasons I can't fathom!

Crossing Railway Lines

East Sussex is criss-crossed with hundreds of ancient footpaths, many of which occasionally cross railway lines. Members of the public are permitted to cross ONLY at the designated point - these are CLEARLY marked and have wooden planks going over the non-electrified lines (but I still make sure I step over them!)

You MUST look both ways because unlike level crossings, there are NO barriers. If a train is coming and you don't look both ways and you haven't heard it YOU WILL DIE. If you do manage to survive a head on collision with a Southern/South Eastern/Connex service (or whichever network is running the railways that week) then you will face a hefty fine from your hospital bed!
