When travelling in the north of Sudan , a stay in Merowe or Karima is worthwhile. The main archaeological sites are:
Barkal- the mountain, museum and pyramids
Nuri- pyramids
El-Kuru - painted tombs
Petrified Forest
new Merowe Dam
These I can vouch for, but there are many other places that deserve a visit. However the group I mentioned are all within easy reach of Karima and Merowe.
