I was on my way back from Spain to Khartoum and had a long stopover in Frankfurt. I'd arrived on a flight from Malaga in the afternoon, and after a lot of argument as to whether or not I should be given a hotel reservation ,though Khartoum ensured me I would have one because of the distance, and long stopover, I stood my ground and told them I'd only agreed to fly Lufthansa on that condition . I could have gone BA and stayed free with a friend! So they gave in and packed me off to a hotel. Some time later , armed with all the correct documents, I set off for the Ramada Hotel. The taxi driver, like many of his ilk ,wanted to chat. I struggled at first to resurrect my long unused German, but by the end of the long journey I was chatting away. He said if I stayed 2 weeks I'd be talking like a native, which made very chuffed. In those days I'd had few experiences of good hotels, so was suitably impressed by the hotel, and the comfortable room and great breakfast buffet |
| | I loved the surroundings which were near a forest, and went for a stroll in the morning before I had to check out at mid-day as I had an afternoon flight. I was told to sit and wait for transport, and was eventually joined by a youngish man, also British, and we got talking. He was very interesting because he was responsible for the lighting at concerts for some of the then Top Ten groups, and had some good stories to tell. It certainly passed the time till our transport arrived to take us back to the airport.. |
