I have been to Brussels twice, the first time on route to the southern part of Belgium, and then on a long weekend to visit my [by then married ] penfriend for the second time.We went to see the Palace, the Atomium and wander around.
We also had a trip to Waterloo where Napoleon met his fate against Wellington. It was a disappointing trip , but I don't really know what I had expected -some great internal battle between my English blood and what was left of the blood of an Italian ancestor who fought for Napoleon? Whatever, my strongest memory was my penfriend's uncle making an omelette fine herbes, and me retching at the raw egg!
On my first visit on the drive from Athus to Brussels I had to refuse the picnic food because it contained liver sausage, another of my particular hates in those days. What a difficult guest I was then.

Flanders was fascinating, and moving. Highly recommended if you can pull in a trip next time you are here: 77GBP return on the Eurostar from lots of UK stations. There are ways to find ancestor's graves/names. J

Nice to read your memories, so typical of any young girl, interested in clothes and the like rather than stories of the recent war.
