"Mainly skiing" Aviemore by uglyscot

Before we moved to Scotland permanently, we would travel by train and we knew the journey was in its final stages when we reached Aviemore as this is the last major stop before Inverness.
Aviemore developed when it was a railway junction in 1898. When a chairlift was built in 1960 the town took off as a tourist destination by giving access to the ski slopes,
Nearby, at Glen More, is the only free-range herd of reindeer in the British Isles.

The Cairngorms

When we were young Aviemore was one of the destinations we would choose when we wanted a trip. My mother loved going there and browsing through the shops selling woollens and jackets, and we children would look at all the gifts displayed to catch the eye of the tourists.
As I got older , I began to appreciate the beauty of the landscape, whether the hills were covered with snow, which attracts the skiers, or not.
