| the remains of the earlier Cathedral |
I spent a few weeks here when my daughter was working nearby. I used to take the bus into the town. Much of the town is like a ghost town, abandoned broken down buildings. The centre is a pedestrian shopping area and quite a pleasant place to spend a few hours. History crops up in statues and references to Peeping Tom and the noble lady Godiva who rode naked through the streets with only her hair to shield her nakedness. Another area where the tourist visits is the ruin of Coventry Cathedral that was destroyed during WWII. The modern cathedral that replaced it was quite revolutionary when it was first opened. Both are worth a visit. Then there are buildings dating back to the 15th century that have been restored. |

evaanna Wed Oct 12, 2005 19:02 UTC I stayed in Coventry for work but apart from the cathedral and a lovely pond with swans and a wood full of bluebells (in May) near the university, I didn't know what to see there. Spon Street might have been interesting if only I had known. |
