We arrived in Rome on 30 April and I decided to head east immediately as we were meeting up in Riccione with my parents a few days later. It was a long journey and it enabled me to practise my 'italian'. We arrived in Ancona about 11pm and I found a hotel. It rained every day so the children and I would take a bus to its destination, get off and look around, then take another bus until we criss-crossed the town. I particularly remember standing on a windy headland overlooking the sea and reading a monument to the WWII. Another find was a tiny little church made out of marble which was carved with many forms and I especially noticed an elephant. This church dated to about 12 or 13 century. The best memory was the warm pizzeria near the hotel where we had our supper. It was the first time for us to see all the balletic movements involved in making the pizza dough. |
