My first real holiday in Italy was to Forte dei Marmi, a resort popular with Italians. We had rented a villa for a few weeks. My parents had rented a villa for a few weeks [Villa Olivia]. They had travelled by LandRover from Scotland with my sister in-law and her two children; we flew from Khartoum. The villa was roomy enough for all of us, with a nice garden. A cook was provided in the rental, and she was brilliant. Chicken roasted with potatoes with lemon and rosemary- delicious. The big disappointment was the beach. Most areas were owned by hotels, so we were forced to frequent the free beach. It was more like a public dumping ground with plastic bottles etc, mounds of sea debris including seaweed. Instead we went for trips to places like Pisa, Florence, Massa di Carrara, Viareggio , Lerici, and other places along the coast. |

PALLINA Thu Apr 24, 2008 17:56 UTC Beaches are the same in Forte. You can decide to pay a fortune and stay there or you can go elsewhere. Public beach is also an option, but it is usually very very crowded | CliffClaven Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:17 UTC Crivvens - it's 35 years since old Cliffie spent a week here! | evaanna Sun Oct 29, 2006 18:23 UTC In Poland all beaches at the seaside are accessible to the public, hotels can't have their own. Nice little page. |
