The Colisseum

The Colisseum
First on any tourist's list in Rome is probably the Colisseum. To go inside it is best to go very early as the queues can be very long, but just walking around the outside alone is very interesting. There are men and women dressed as soldiers and gladiators, but beware if you are photographed beside them, they demand to be paid.

Marching orders

The best way to see Rome is to walk, or if you are lazy take a bus. Roman Rome is surprisingly small in area , and very well signposted, so it is hard to get lost.
From the Colisseum it is easy to get to the Forum across the road and the Palatine Hill, a short walk away is the Corso Massimo where it is pleasant just to sit and watch others being energetic jogging- or even chariot racing!
Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona

Rome is not just the Roman City, but a living art gallery as well as open museum. There are so many piazzas and each has its own beauty or piece of art whether a fountain, a building or a stolen obelisk from Egypt!
Some like the Piazza Navona have a market where you can buy gifts or fruit , flowers and herbs.
And there are cafes to sit at and watch the world go by as you have an ice cream or a coffee, cappucino naturally.
