Khartoum Hilton

Pullman Hotel , formerly Khartoum Hilton: a room with a view Hilton Khartoum Review

2008 Update- because of US Sanctions against the Sudan, this hotel has changed ownership and is now the Pullman Hotel.

I personally haven't stayed here but my daughter has, though I have eaten here many times and frequented the coffee shop.
My daughter was disappointed with the room as it did not have a good view, though most rooms overlook the Nile. The decor was old fashioned, and the cleanliness was not up to her standard. They have colour TV and satellite TV, a refrigerator and mini-bar but no safe. All rooms are air conditioned.
Service and food were quite good [ but be wary of the smoked salmon].
There is are a swimming pool, two tennis courts, billiard room, 10-pin bowling [when it works], health club and sauna.
Dry cleaning facilities are available.
The hotel is wheel chair accessible and there is baby sitting available.

Unique Qualities: The gardens and surroundings are attractive and the dining room and food are good compared to other hotels in town. The buffet breakfast is good but expensive.
Its situation is its selling point being , as it is, at the junction of the Blue Nile and the White Nile.

The prices are ridiculously high.
A single room costs $US 190-200
A double room $US 210-220
Suites range from $US 390-659
Presidential suite $US 750
There is also 10% VAT and a 5% residential tax added

Address: The Mogran area, On Nile avenue just before the Omdurman bridge

Comparison: more expensive than average

Price: US$180 and up

The Meridien: going down hill

This hotel is far too expensive [$ 95 per night for a single room] in view of the present state of service offered. It is in the centre of Khartoum on Gamhouriya Avenue. The building itself is fine, but the maintenance needs improving. There was no hot water in the bathrooms, and February was having a cold spell. The service left much to be desired. The bathrooms were provided with a bar of soap, but no shampoo or shower gel or other of the finer touches one expects from hotels today. On the first day a large and small towel were provided, but after that it was only one [usually a small towel],
Because the breakfast buffet was so poor : little choice from white cheese, a boiled egg or omelette, sausages, white bread with one type of jam, a communal container of butter, most of the party ate elsewhere when not invited out for meals. There were no spoons for stirring tea or coffee, only powdered milk was offered; and the service was poor.
However, the hotel was clean.

Unique Qualities: There is a health room with sauna, but cannot comment on it. A business centre offers wireless connection to the Internet for 5 hours.
There is a clinic with a doctor offering treatment for hair loss!

Address: GAmhouriya Street, Central Khartoum

Comparison: more expensive than average

Price: US$80-120

Assaha Lebanese traditional village: Discover Lebanon's culture- in Sudan

I haven't actually stayed at the hotel as it is new and still being finished, but ate at the restaurant.
The building is very unusual , built as a traditional Lebanese village using local Sudanese materials e.g. old railway sleepers, cane, wood etc.
The bathrooms are up to date by Sudanese standards, and the rooms are quite comfortable with internet connection.
There are 24 bedrooms with bathrooms @$200 per night, 8 suites @$300 per night.
There is a coffee shop, green areas, pond, barbecue, and various halls that cater for 70 persons.

There is a morning breakfast and all kinds of sandwiches

Unique Qualities: The restaurant serves a marvellous Lebanese cuisine . The mezze gives plenty of the traditional dishes, and the grilled meats are delicious. About $20 per head.

Address: Africa Street, near the Canadian Embassy

Comparison: more expensive than average

Grand Holiday Villa Khartoum Sudan: the old Grand Hotel under a new name Grand Holiday Villa Khartoum Review

Very comfortable . The food was good but during Ramadan there were so many people from outside coming for 'fatour' that you had to be early to find a place to sit.
Bed and breakfast costs 160 US$, and full board US$200.Rather pricey.

Unique Qualities: View of the Nile and Tuti Island

Address: Po Box 316

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: On Nile Avenue opposite Tuti Island

Price: US$180 and up
