Rabat

a church- St Pierre
Rabat is a busy town, but what strikes you is how well arboured it is. All main streets have an avenue of trees whether palms or ficus. There are parks too.
T he architecture is a blend of Arab, French and modern and somehow it works.

Rabat began as a Phoenician fishing village about 800BC on the banks of the Bou regreg Estuary.

It has a different atmosphere to Casablanca. People are less interested in foreigners and keep themselves more to themselves.

Like Casablanca , it also lies on the Atlantic coast.
minaret
In Morocco it seems most of the minarets are square in shape compared to the circular ones in Cairo and elsewhere.
looking to Sale
Across the estuary from Rabat is its twin town of Sale which is more traditional and conservative than Rabat. Go there to the Artisan village - ilamar, and pick up some pottery as souvenirs.

Interesting page & photographs- I must confess I would have been very rattled by that interrogation too-sad that the world has become so paranoid. Lovely pottery.

Shane, I enjoyed to read your Rabat tips. I realise I never came back to Rabat after my first visit in 1975.
