I have visited Nairobi twice but haven't done much or taken many pictures. The first time we stayed outside Nairobi at Langata but came in to town from time to time. I remember most the sleeping policemen or traffic humps. The steep roads would be wonderful for madcap drivers, hence the bumps; but it makes it an uncomfortable ride and increases the time as you seem to be slowing down every few meters.. So what did we do in Nairobi? Ate at Carnivore; went to the old colonial Muthaig club with lots of wood and chandeliers [oh so Edwardian England, with expats hanging around the bar talking loudly, and obsequious waiters moving like shadows to do their bidding]. But the food was good! ; went to the Masai Market; saw the tree where people left messages;shopped in a supermarket for spices..........and swam in the Serena Hotel pool. Great tourist, that's me. Seriously, I had been warned of all the crime in Nairobi, and the daily newspapers reinforced the idea. So, I tended to stay where it was safe. |
| | One thing I loved was the garden of the Serena Hotel. The flowers were amazing, so see if you agree in my travelogue. |
| | Th trees and flowers flourish in this climate, so now selling flowers to Europe is big business. Planes leave loaded with the colourful blossoms. |
