An archaeological paradise Luxor, Karnak, Madinat Habu, Deir el Bahri, the Valley of the Kings...I waited over 40 years to visit and make a dream come true. The temples of Luxor and Karnak are amazing. The light and sound at Karnak is a must, preferably see it before visiting the temple by day to appreciate it. The cool pillared halls are welcome , and the wall decorations need hours to examine. And we spent hours. |

| | Valley of the Kings The valley, with its pyramid-shaped peak is awe-inspiring. We chose Ramses IX as our first tomb to visit. Very bright colours behind protective glass/ plastic sheets but it was too crowded to really study. Then up up up the cliff to Tuthmosis III 's tomb with its stick-figure pictures. Great ,but by the time we had climbed up, through and down again, our legs were like jelly, so we chose a one-level tomb for our third choice- Siptah and Tawrset. It was an excellent choice as no one else was there and we were able to study the brilliant wall painting at leisure. |
Hatchepsut's temple at Deir el Bahri From a distance this temple looks as if it had been built yesterday. Because of the massacre a few years ago we were unable to see anything but the lower level , but still it was worth it. The gentle face on the Hathor statues was so peaceful. The surrounding hills were a misty blue. It had an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity. | | | Morturary Temple of Hatchepsut |
