East , west...take your pick Antalya is situated on a beautiful bay with mountains around it. It is very convenient for exploring the region. We found the best way was to take a minibus to the main bus station and then pick a suitable destination . In this way we discovered Olympus, home of the legendary Chimaera, and Side with its Roman ruins. Antalya is a good place to shop too. We stocked up on apple tea, Turkish delight, and blue amulets against the evil eye. |
| | Aspendos and Side Another lucky find. There is a Roman amphitheatre ,a lively little market place where we got a few good bargains and the museum which has many sarcophagi, staues and other artefacts. The whole area is a paradise for those interested in ancient history as many invaders visited the area and left their mark. Best is the Theatre at Aspendos which is still in use for concerts. But take a cushion as the stone blocks are rock hard! |

I was crossing the Taurus going from Alanya to Cappadocia by bus and remember wondering if a hike or any other activity there was on offer for tourists. | Sue08080 Thu May 25, 2006 02:44 UTC Great tips. I hope to visit Turkey one day. |
