Restaurant Name: Le Cristal
The restaurant was quite busy and the decor was pleasant. The service was good, and the proprietor was very friendly. We enjoyed the food, and because of the large windows inside, we were able to people watch as we waited for and ate our meal. the clientele were mixed- British, Arabs, French and other Europeans enjoying their food and drink.
Favorite Dish: The Onion soup @7.80 was delicious and filling with its bread dripping with cheese, so that it was hard to finish the quarter of grilled chicken @13.00 that I'd ordered. My husband had steak frite @13.00 and cafe @2.70 and we had water @6.90 euro. Our bill came to 51.20 euro

We needed a break somstopped at this cafe in the student quarter of a drink. I had hot chocoltate and my companions had coffee. The cafe had tables on the pavement and also space indoors. The surroundings were busy and so people watching was interesting. The waiters were friendly and asked to be photographed.
Favorite Dish: We didn't eat, but my drink was fine at 4.50 Euro cappucini 5.00, cafe 5.00, croissant 2.00.

Restaurant Name: La Rose de France
We stopped for a snack, knowing we'd be going out for dinner in the evening, so opted for something light- salad. A huge bowl of assorted lettuce leaves, tomatoes, onions and a poached egg and smoked haddock pieces was mine. A few rabbits up my sleeve would have been helpful....I just couldn't eat half of it, and the poached egg was a surprise and rather runny. I'd expected hard boiled egg at least.

Roger la grenouille/ Roger the Frog: atmospheric bistro

Restaurant Name: Roger la grenouille/ Roger the Frog
We asked our hosts to take us somewhere we could have traditional french food. He took us back to a quarter near Pont Neuf where there are passages leading to hidden surprises. One of these was the bistro, a long narrow passage with tables down each wall. Bits and pieces of old utensils hung from the ceiling. It was rough and ready and very French! The atmosphere was great, and the service good. The restaurant was founded in 1930 by Roger Spinhiny, and was famous with clientele from celebrities, politicians and even a pope and royalty. I believe it is wise to make reservations.
Favorite Dish: Our host ordered a plate of frogs' legs, which resembled chicken wings to me. My husband volunteered to try one and pronounced it good. I opted for asparagus soup [9.80] which was delicious. We shared a casserole of blanquette de veau. The veal was very tender, the mushroom sauce was light, almost runny, and the tureen of vegetables was interesting with carrots, haricots verts, broccolli and a vegetable that looked like a spinning top [green or yellow] which I did not recognize, and remainred unidentified, but eaten. This cost 19 euro each.

Restaurant Name: L'Oree des Champs
We chose to stop at a pavement cafe . It was bright and cheerful, and people were sitting inside and outside. The service was reasonable, but I would not consider going there again.
Favorite Dish: I ordered the hot chocolate [3.40] and my husband asked for cappuccino [4.20]. Mine was very nice, but my husband said his was not good, being black coffee with froth, and none of the finer touches that make a good cappucccino
