Jaipur is known as the pink city because all the buildings are/were red. As you enter the city from Agra, the buildings are in a bad state of repair and roads are narrow. The central market area is a hive of activity with beggars and salesmen everywhere. I even saw one shop owner taking his bath and washing his hair in front of his shop.

I had been keen to visit the Amber Fort, but after my accident it was not possible. The other key sites were all in the main area of Jaipur so were more accessible : Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and the City Palace.

Pity that your hotel seems like it was a not up to standerd.There are so many good ones in Jaipur. I must confess I don't like the Elephant ride method of reaching the fort,as I stated in my Jaipur page. Lovely photos, Shane.

What beautiful lace-like architecture - Tawa Mahal is simply gorgeous! The clothes in the bazaar look great too, we have some Indian shops here and I simply love them. Pity you couldn't ride an elephant - not sure if I would have done that.
