...but not for long | My old high school, in downtown Alliston |
If you travel about an hour north of Toronto, you will reach Alliston; a small, labeled "hick" town, which is in the process of growing and expanding. I live only 15 minutes south of this town, and went to school here for four years. Alliston is not known for much sight seeing; but it is not situated far from other more touristy places, such as Wasaga Beach or Barrie. In my opinion, Alliston is quite good to visitors! There are several nice places to eat that range from as cheap as McDonalds to as posh and classy as the Globe Restaurant. There are clean, affordable places to stay overnight and the area does have some interesting attractions. |
| | Our "Hick Town" A helicopter view of Alliston. As you can see it is somewhat of a small city surrounded mostly by lots of farmland. A few things you may find interesting about Alliston, however is that it is home of:
-a Honda manufacturing plant which now is taking over everything -Earl Rowe Provincial Park (GREAT campgrounds!) -an annual Potato Festival -a classy hotel where many celebrities have stayed: The Nottawasaga Inn -9,000 inabitants |
| | Our Hero Sir Frederick Grant Banting is one of the few historical figures known to have been born and raised in Alliston. He invented insulin, the cure for diabetes, and was killed in a plane crash during World War II. His house remains one of Alliston's few historical sites. |
