New York City Transportation

Amtrak: Amtrak
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: The Amtrak stops at Penn Station, on 34th and 8th. Dumps you right out in the middle of it all. If you're coming from the north, the overpasses are such that you basically get a tour of Queens from the air.

    Transportation: Buses
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: All buses, including Greyhound and Shortline, will leave you at Port Authority on 42nd and 8th. From there you can walk to Times Square or get on the subway if you want to go anywhere else.

    Subway: Subway
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: Subway fare is $2 a ride, so I highly recommend that you buy a "Fun Pass." You can do so at the same machine where you buy tickets. For $7, you'll get a card you can swipe over and over again for the rest of the day, getting on and off the subway as much as you want.

In Chinatown, on occasion, a person will run up to you and try to prevent you from using a ticket machine. This person will have an unlimited ride pass and will try to take the one-ride money from you himself, and, in return, swipe you in on his card. If you were going for a one-ride ticket anyway, this makes no financial difference to you, but you will get dirty looks from everyone around you if you accept.
