| Yosemite Valley from Sierra Point |
When most people think of Yosemite, they think of Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls and other giant rock formations and waterfalls in Yosemite Valley. Area-wise, that's just a tiny part of the park, but by far the most popular and most fascinating for a first-time visitor. There are enough exciting and naughty things to be done there to keep you for at least a week without needing to venture outside. |

| | Yosemite has inspired many people--particularly artists of various sorts--but I personally think it is most exciting for a serious hiker (a bonus, I guess, if the hiker is also an artist). Climbers have quite a time of it too, particularly on El Capitan. I would, particularly in the valley, spend a day or so checking out the crowded places, because they're often crowded for a reason, but then go off and explore places where few people go. Plenty of exciting stuff to do here. |
