It suprises me that there isn't a lot of pages on Tonopah. Then again, it doesn't. Most go to Nevada for Las Vegas or Reno...and rarely leave these locals. Tonopah is a prime example of what they are missing.
Located in Central Nevada roughly halfway between Las Vegas and Reno, is Tonopah. Tonopah is a high elevation community where old wild west history lives on. Unlike nearby desert communities, Tonopah is very much intact. |
| | One of the interesting aspects of this town is the opposite way in which it was built. Most liveable communities choose a valley location, surrounded by mountains. Tonopah is the exact opposite; its at the mountaintop, and all must climb in elevation to get here.
Besides the Central Nevada Museum, and old Tonopah...its a location where you'll probably have a better time gambling. While Las Vegas has the glitz and th girls, you'll get your free drinks faster here with less people to compete with. |
| | But don't just gamble your time and your money away. Explore old downtown, and venture through some of the mining areas. You'll find history of all sorts here, within the confines of a rather safe region.
If you are into ghost towns, or love to gamble...but hate the heat of the desert, then Tonopah is perfect for you. Its high elevation keeps it cooler than the surrounding areas, the setting is a bit rustic, and the older buildings still sit in an arrested state of decay. Give Tonopah a chance. |
