  • Miscellaneous: If you are planning on staying around New Orleans, understand that things have changed greatly. While hurricane damage is something you don't want to miss getting shots of, please don't make light of the situation. Many of the citizens in this area have been struggling since the hurricane, and may have a temper due to slow response.

The Lafayette area is a decent area, and was more or less unaffected by these past hurricanes of 2005. This is a good place to begin any sort of cajun and swamp tours. The best food in the state is here and in surrounding cajun communities.

Lake Charles is still recovering from Hurricane Rita, and therefore you may need to improvise a few things. Heed the same advice I give for New Oreleans areas.

Shreveport is doing fine, as it is well inland from the affected areas. Same goes for Monroe and Baton Rouge.

Great pages! Thanks so much. A friend and I are going to Thibodaux 4/15 for a week to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. It's hard to find out much about that part of the state.

I don't know how I missed this page on Louisiana---really remarkable!! You've done the state a favor "selling it" like you have :) We need all the encouragement you can give and I think you've pegged the best things this state has to offer. Awesome job!

Fascinating, thoughtful tips, Bobby! According to findyourspot.com, Louisiana is my ideal loaction. Better remember my waders and alligator repellent :-)
