P'Yong'taek

Onward through South Korea....

Street in P'yong'taek

Look at this! ClarkRB continues his journeys through South Korea with yet another city page! I'm telling ya folks, NOBODY will EVER present South Korea as I will. You're gonna get the full insight to all the wonderful and nasty things this country has to offer.

Which brings me to P'yong-taek. It's important for me to note that although many people confuse the area I am about to cover as "Osan," they are very sadly mistaken, as this is all within the city of P'yong'taek.

Located about 40KM South of Seoul, P'yong'taek has been known for decades as the shopping mecca for those who are looking for the best deals, the quickest service, and an overall atmosphere designed specifically for Americans, Chinese, Filipinos, and Russians.

All 4 of the groups I mentioned come here in droves to do everything from buy massive amounts of mink blankets to people gawking.

P'yongt'aek!? WTF??

Getting here from where I live in Chuncheon is no easy journey. It took lots of bus transfers and a few cab rides to get out here. By the time I arrive, massive amounts of time have already passed, and it comes down to staying the night here or getting back to Chuncheon.

However long it takes to arrive, P'yong'taek is completely worth it if you plan on going on a fantastic shopping spree. It's very easy to spend very little. But why spend little when you can spend alot and get alot more? All while looking at people that look more like me. The homogeneous population is blended well with people of many nations, mainly the ones I mentioned above.

What to expect....

It is here that you can purchase those high value items for outrageously cheap. Whatever tickles your fancy. Rolex Watches, jerseys, furniture, music instruments, you name it, there is a store here for it.

The nightlife is also vibrant here, giving you a view of the street below as you drink the night away, or dance off the calories. Or if yuou prefer a simple meal of the non-Korean type, you've found ther right place to go, as many exotic cuisines are offered. Take some time away from Seoul and get a better deal. Welcome to P'yong'taek. It's a good way to get that shopping bug out of you. See it through my eyes, then see it through yours.

Why on earth were you in Pyeongtaek? Did your car break down before you could escape? Oh well. Thanks for the tip about the phone card. Didn't know I could get one there. Saves me about an hour travel time.

Bobby, a great page in your own style, just as you said it would be. I would love to buy one of those 'Pimp' suits too, but all I have is that worthless Canadian money! At this rate, pretty soon it won't even be able to be used in Canada!
