County Cork, the largest county of Ireland, is situated in the southwest of Ireland. The capital is Cork City (easy to guess in this case!). It’s the second largest city in Ireland with a population of 128.000, but I have to admit that we haven’t visited it. We were so keen on the Irish landscape that we didn’t feel like spending some hours in a “big” city. And after having spent several days on small roads, already the huge roundabouts around Cork frightened me!

So we concentrated on other sights in Country Cork. Interesting and worth a visit are the Charles Fort in Kinsale and Barryscourt Castle east of Cork. And there are nice villages like Kinsale and Cobh!

The coastline of County Cork is beautiful, especially in the west where you have Beara Peninsula and Mizen Head Peninsula with rugged coastlines. Both peninsulas are not so touristy and big like the Iveragh peninsula with the Ring of Kerry, but that makes them attractive and they also have interesting sights and a beautiful cost!
