Clonmacnoise (or Cluain Mhic Nos in Gaelic) is an ancient monastic site on the banks of the river Shannon, south of Athlone.
Close to Clonmacnoise is an interesting ruins on a hill above the river Shannon, which has been a Norman castle, build in the 13th century.

We stayed at Kajon House with Kate and John about four years ago during a chilly and wet March. We enjoyed our stay, including a warm peat fire at night and Kate's delightful sense of humor.
