Malta - sun, rocky beaches and history

Malta is a group of islands in the Mediterranean Sea, situated between Europe and North Africa. Malta is the name of the country as well as the name of its biggest island. Then, there's the island Gozo, which is smaller and greener than Malta and situated in the north-west of Malta. Between both islands, you'll find Comino and the little island Cominiotto.

Malta has lots of old monuments, churches and interesting cities – so there's much to see! We stayed for one week in Mellieha and did several excursions by bus from there, it had been very nice!
The coast is mostly rocky and there are only some sandy beaches. But I loved it – rocks are great for snorkelling!

Some short information about the history: Malta has been under Arab rule for two centuries which you still can notice at their language and city names. Then there had been the Knights of St John until Napoleon conquered Malta in 1798. The French were not liked after they plundered the churches and the Maltese people asked Great Britain for help who then drove away the French two years later. Malta then became a British colony, gained independence in 1964 and became a republic in 1974.

It's been a long time that I visited Malta. Maybe I should go there again. And it's interesting that they still use those vintage busses. It's like an open air museum.
