"Auxonne" Auxonne by himalia11

Auxonne Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 23 photos

Auxonne is located in the department Côte-d'Or in east Burgundy. It's about 34 km from Dijon and 15 km from Dole.

Auxonne is situated at the Saône river, with the centre on the left bank of the river, a perfect stop when travelling by houseboat like we did (see the travelogue on my Pontailler VT page).
Auxonne is a nice town with lots of old buildings like the Hôtel de Ville (townhall). Along the river you'll find fortifications and a castle with a Bonaparte museum. Napoleon spent a couple of years at young man in Auxonne, in an artillery school, so you could say that this is the place where his career started!

Thanks for your pages, you don't have a lot of opposition so to speak.
    We're heading there next April.
    Cheers, Ian

Getting around in Burgundy on boat is a great idea. It's my favourite region in France, but I haven't been to Auxonne yet. So thank you for the virtual tour.
