Salzburg is both a town and a land (state) of Austria. This page is about the land, where we spend one week with hiking and sightseeing. It’s a great region, with many gorges, waterfalls, castles and the high mountains of the Alps. We stayed in St Veit im Pongau (see my St Veit page) which was a nice starting point for our excursion. We also spend a few days in Salzburg which was a wonderful relaxing ending of our holidays.

Fortress Hohenwerfen

,One week is not really much for this region as it’s large with many attractions. There are several sights that I still would love to visit like the salt mines, the gorges and caves of the Saalachtal and the ice cave of the Eisriesenwelt. So I need to come back! :-)
