"Salins-les-Bains, the city of "white gold"" Salins-les-Bains by himalia11

Salins-les-Bains Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 14 photos

Salins-les-Bains is a town located in the narrow valley for the Furieuse river, in Franche Comté, between Besançon (42 km) and Champagnole (25 km).

Salins-les-Bains (also often just called Salins) is known for its "white gold", the salt. It has a long history of salt extraction, maybe that's where the name comes from. You here can visit the old saltworks, or enjoy the view from the viewpoints near the two forts.

Other interesting places nearby:
- Arbois (14 km) - the wine capital of Jura, a nice town with a cave and waterfalls closeby
- Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne (14 km) - great natural site with waterfall and caves
- Arc-et-Senans (16 km) - great gardens and fascinating museum about architect Ledoux on the grounds of a former saltworks
