The saltworks

Salins-les-Bains is a town located in the narrow valley for the Furieuse river, in Franche Comté, between Besançon (42 km) and Champagnole (25 km).

Salins-les-Bains (also often just called Salins) is known for its "white gold", the salt. It has a long history of salt extraction, maybe that's where the name comes from. You here can visit the old saltworks, or enjoy the view from the viewpoints near the two forts.

Nice pictures and good tips. We cross the area long time ago and enjoy it! And ...yes it's a great place for hiking.
