Bad Schandau is a spa town in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony (south-east of Germany). The villages Ostrau, Potelwitz, Schmilka and Krippen also belong to the town of Bad Schandau. Bad Schandau lies about 45 km from Dresden. The Saxon Switzerland National Park is close-by and you'll find lots of hiking trails in this area. I'm putting my tips about other sights of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and Saxon Switzerland also on this page. |

We stayed in Bad Schandau for one week and walked a lot. The Saxon Switzerland National Park has lots of interesting places and although I feel that we've seen a lot I know that there's so much more to discover! It's a beautiful area with remarkable rock formations and lots of forest. Actually the National Park consists of two parts, close to each other. In the south-east in the Czech Republic then is found the Bohemian Switzerland National Park.

Kathrin_E Sat Oct 4, 2008 00:00 UTC I should have read your tips before allowing someone to take me on a hiking tour up Schrammsteine - had no idea what was awaiting me. Vertigo here, too. I really made it to the top. Made it down with only about half a dozen panic attacks. Never again!!! | Helga67 Mon Feb 18, 2008 12:59 UTC Thanks for the interesting tips. We are planning going there later this year. | iandsmith Tue Nov 6, 2007 10:05 UTC Wonderful, just what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing. Shame you missed going up to the Bastei, it's brilliant. | Jim_Eliason Sun Aug 19, 2007 19:32 UTC Great tips Angela! I really liked the elevator |
