| With the houseboat in Dole |
| | Hello... nice to meet you on my travel pages!
In September, we spent two weeks vacation in Franche Comté/ Burgundy and had a wonderful time there. First we spend one week on a houseboat which was fun again - more on my Pontailler page! Then we spend another week in a cottage and explored the Franche Comté region which was very nice. As there were so few pages about that region here at VT I've added quite a lot: - Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne - great natural site with waterfall and caves - Salins-les-Bains - nice town with interesting saltworks and two forts - Arc-et-Senans - great gardens and fascinating museum about architect Ledoux on the grounds of a former saltworks - Arbois - the wine capital of Jura, a nice town with a cave and waterfalls closeby - Dole - a charming town at the Doubs river - Gray - once an important river port, now a nice stop for houseboat travels - Besançon - the capital of Franche Comté
Besides we did spend a few days in the Eifel (low mountain range here in Germany) this year, in a town called Neuerburg. From there we did short trip to Vianden in Luxembourg. |
2007, I've spent one week in March in Aschau im Chiemgau, a little town in south Bavaria at the foothills of the Alps. I've been most of the time in an orthopedic children's hospital as my nephew was there, but we still found time to enjoy the landscape and do some excursions. A very nice region!
In June then, I've been in Scotland where we've spent two fantastic weeks. We started in Edinburgh, a lovely city where we unfortunately only spent one day. We mainly were touring around, spending one week in a cottage in Fort William, a great place to explore the highlands!
And last but not least I've been in Brugge, the last week-end of 2007. I now understand why everybody says that this city is so wonderful!

| | 2006, I've spent one week in France on a houseboat. That was really adventurous.... you'll find some more on my Lorraine page.
Then, I've been one week in Malta which was quite hot, but great. Lots of interesting places and the rocky beaches were perfect for snorkeling!
And last but not least I've been in Saxon Switzerland here in Germany. It was our honeymoon and it was fantastic! Saxon Switzerland is a fantastic region with interesting rock formations and there are plenty of hiking paths - I was quite exhausted from hiking afterwards! You'll find photos and information about our trip on my Bad Schandau page.

2005, I spent my holidays in Slovenia. It was great, Slovenia is a little but very diversified and interesting country! The highlights of our trip: - Predjama castle, a castle with caves, nestled in the rocks - Stanjel, a beautiful karst village - Škocjan Cave, a fantastic underground world - Triglav National Park, nature at its best with waterfalls and gorges - Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, with lots of nice buildings and a castle And of course there are much more interesting places - see my other Slovenia pages!

| | 2004, I've been to Ireland, and it was fantastic. The coast with its cliffs is amazing! And there are so much castle ruins, and some nice caves, perfect for me as I love both!
I cannot tell you which Irish region I liked most, probably Achill Island in County Mayo. But the whole west coast is nice and there are also interesting places in the inland. In any case, I enjoyed each day and I guess this wasn't my last visit to Ireland! |
Some years ago I've been in Norway. I like woods, mountains, waterfalls and the sea, so it's no wonder that I loved the fjords! It's such a fantastic landscape... let's see when I'll go there again!
Luxembourg, especially the "Little Switzerland" region (Berdorf, Mullerthal), has a nice landscape too, perfect to walk a bit!
And then, the Belgian Ardennes with its castles (for example Bouillon and La Roche) and caves (Hotton, Han sur Lesse) are of course worth a visit!

| | One of my best "beach holidays" were in Crete and Rhodes. Both times, we found a great place to snorkel, and if you get bored of the beach there are lots of excursions you can do to explore the island.
Lanzarote has been nice, too, and the volcanic park Timanfaya is a great experience. But it's a small island and we've seen almost all there after only two days.
The Algarve in Portugal has also great beaches, unfortunately the water was too cold to snorkel. Perhaps the water in the eastern part of the Algarve would have been warmer. |
