Where it is and how to get there

Fehmarn is one of the few German islands in the Baltic Sea and is the only west german Baltic island. It is located roughly between Lübeck and Kiel. With rolling hills and lovely beaches it is a nice place to relax and watch the sea or if you are more active, to wind surf. My favorite part are the thatched roofed houses which can be found all over northern Germany but just add a back in time feel to the island.

To get there you can take the train from Hamburg, Lübeck, Kiel or Flensburg to Wehrl. Or the A-1 to Oldenburg im Holstein to the E47/L309. If you are coming from Denmark there the ferry service to Puttgarden.

Fehman is one of the few places in northern Germany where the signs are written in both German and Danish.

I really didn't know that there are bilingual signs on Fehmarn ... even though I do speak Danish :-))
