Hurghada is a long city. It started as a fishing village and then when the beauty of the clear water and reefs was recognized by European tourist the town grew. Not outward the way most towns grow but elongated along the coast of the sea. This accomodated hotels which in order to draw tourists wanted, perhaps needed to be on the water.
There isnt much to the old town of Hurghada and much culture here, in my opinion has been diluted by big resorts.
Still meeting people regardless of how commercial a town has become is a good way to be exposed to the lack of culture in other forms. There is no shortage of people to meet in Hurghada.
I was invited to tea several times by shop keepers in the area who weren't out to sell something but seemed truly interested in meeting other people from different cultures too.
