If you like to see a Peruvian town that has not been too influenced by tourism, Huánuco is a good choice. With a population of approximately 75000 inhabitants Huánuco got all the facilities needed in a town. Life goes on as you would expect it in Latin America with noisy traffic, crowded streets and always a lot of life. Huánuco is located in the Andes mountains at an altitude of 1920 metres, which seldom gives any problems with height illness. The climate is good all year with temperatures from 25-35 degrees in the summer and 15-25 degrees in the winter. Huánuco is known to be an important fruit producer, but also other products like coffee, tea and sugar cane should be mentioned. There are a lot of unemployment in Huánuco, and many people are poor, however you will find that people mostly are very friendly and serviceminded.
